FAQs

Here you can find answers to some of the common questions we receive about products, purchasing, and shipping. All other inquiries can be submitted via email to info@tensionclimbing.com. The average response time for the info email is 1-2 business days.

Can I convert my original Tension Board 1 to the New Tension Board 2?

Yes! To convert a TB1 to a TB2, you will need to remove the t-nuts, install the TB2 screw-on holds, and then install the LEDs into the former t-nut holes. See below for more information about LED kit conversions.

Do the new hold sets use bolts?

No. All of the holds on the TB2 are meant to be screwed on for the Mirror or the Spray layout. However, all holds are also able to be bolted on for other applications.

Can I order plastic sets in other colors?

Yes. Plastic sets can be ordered in all typically available colors for routesetting purposes. For more information please email info@tensionclimbing.com.

Can I use my current Tension Board LED kit with the new Tension Board 2?

If you’re converting from a 10×8 LED kit to a new TB2 10×8 wall, or a 12×8 LED kit to a new TB2 12×8 wall, then you will only need to purchase the light pipes ($271.59 for 10×8 set and $343.60 for the 12×8 set).

If you are planning on upgrading the size of your wall, then the LED upgrade process may be a little more involved, but you still will not have to purchase an entirely new kit.

Either way, this will be a custom order, and you can email info@tensionclimbing.com for help!

Why no Kickboard?

We went without a kickboard this time for a few reasons:

  • Eliminating the kickboard gives the climber the full experience of the wall angle as soon as they pull off the ground, where a kickboard reduces the effective angle of the wall, making it feel less steep for the first few moves.
  • Because of the nature of kickboards, they incentivize keeping low feet, which provides a less egalitarian experience for climbers of different heights.
  • In our experience, eliminating the kickboard increases the opportunity to set interesting footwork.
  • Eliminating the kickboard simplifies wall construction and allows more climbing surface to be installed in a smaller area… aka: your garage.

Why plastic?

  • Exploiting texture is an important part of learning to climb on certain hold types like flat edges and slopers.
  • Polyurethane is also a stronger material for more complex and incut shapes.
  • Including multiple textures on one wall further broadens the overall experience for the climber.

Choosing a wall angle.

The TB1 and TB2 are best experienced on an adjustable climbing wall, but if you have to choose a fixed angle, we recommend the following:

V2-V5

  • TB1 @ 25 or 30 degrees
  • TB2 @ 30 or 40 degrees

V6-V10

  • TB1 @40 degrees
  • TB2 @45 degrees

V11+

  • TB1 @45 or 50 degrees
  • TB2 @45 to 55 degrees

Can I swap between Mirror and Spray layouts?

Yes. All TB2 wall sizes and sets can be configurated into the Spray or Mirror layout. However, the install process is involved and we do not recommend switching between layouts frequently.

How do I choose between the Mirror and Spray layouts?

Each layout is unique and will excell in different areas. The Mirror layout offers the unique opportunity to hone in on side-to-side weaknesses and balance the stimulus of a given training session. The Spray layout offers more overall movement possibilities, while still remaining relatively balanced, and is also just a little bit more difficult at each angle compared to the Mirror layout.

Where should I purchase a wall?

The Kumiki EverActive Wall is Tension Climbing’s recommended wall platform for the Tension Board 1 and the Tension Board 2. You can learn more about the wall HERE, and please contact us if you are interested in our bundle TB2/ Kumiki EverActive wall packages.

Our hangboard products are made from Poplar which contains natural mineral stains that can result in variations in color. We do not consider these color variations to be cosmetic defects.

Card payments are typically blocked if the zip code doesn’t match the one your bank has on file. If you’re having issues processing an order please double check the zip code you provided your bank and try again. Blocked charges may show up temporarily in your bank account, but if you didn’t receive an order confirmation, the card processing company will refund the charges in a few days.
