What Is The Tension Board?

Will Anglin

The Tension Board is a mirrored training wall designed from the ground up to help you push your climbing to the next level, whether you climb V3 or V13. The mirrored hold layout allows you to train moves and boulder problems equally on both sides of the body, encouraging the development of balanced strength, coordination, and technique. The comfortable wooden holds help you focus on executing moves without worrying about tearing up your skin and also support the development of contact strength and body positioning.

As a coach, I wanted a tool that would allow me not only to work more effectively with other climbers. The high density of holds makes it easy to hone in on a desired intensity level and create moves that target the specific needs of individual climbers. By making the wall adjustable, a single boulder problem can grow with the climber, becoming more and more difficult as the climber improves. The mirrored layout is an incredible tool for developing not only physical strength, but also mental skills like visualization and sequencing.

As a climber, I wanted a tool that would allow me to push myself during training sessions, but also set me up for success when pursuing my main performance objectives. After training for over 15 years on plastic holds, only to show up to my projects on the weekends with shredded skin, I knew something had to change. At first I started hoarding slick and worn-out plastic holds to lessen the toll on my skin. Still, it was hard to find mirrored or ambidextrous holds.  Machining wood holds solved both of these issues. The holds have the perfect slick/tacky texture that reduces skin wear and forces precision movement and power. The machining process guarantees symmetrical and mirrored shapes. It is now possible to train hard without bleeding from your fingertips.
